President elections in India will start on 18 July 2022 and counting of votes will take place on 21 July 2022

A total of 583 electors from the Electoral College . Each elector casts one vote following the general election . The candidate who gets 270 votes or more wins .


What is the process of elections of president in India ?

Electoral System

The nomination of a candidate for the election to the office of the president must be subscribed by at least 50 electors as seconders .The election is held by means of a secret ballot under the Instant-runoff voting system .



Who votes for the president in India ?

The President of India is elected by the Members of an Electoral College consisting of (a) the elected members of both Houses of Parliament and (b) the elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of the States [including National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union Territory of Puducherry vide the Constitution .

Members of Lok Sabha (House of the People) or the lower house of India's Parliament are elected by being voted upon by all adult citizens of India, from a set of candidates who stand in their respective constituencies. Every adult citizen of India can vote only in their constituency.

Instead, presidential elections use the Electoral College. To win the election, a candidate must receive a majority of electoral votes. In the event no candidate receives a majority, the House of Representatives chooses the president and the Senate chooses the vice president.

The president is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces. The president can declare war or conclude peace, on the advice of the Union Council of Ministers headed by the prime minister. All important treaties and contracts are made in the president's name.


What are the main powers which a president has ?

The Constitution explicitly assigns the president the power to sign or veto legislation, command the armed forces, ask for the written opinion of their Cabinet, convene or adjourn Congress, grant reprieves and pardons, and receive ambassadors.


Can a president pass a law ?

The president can approve the bill and sign it into law or not approve (veto) a bill. If the president chooses to veto a bill, in most cases Congress can vote to override that veto and the bill becomes a law. But, if the president pocket vetoes a bill after Congress has adjourned, the veto cannot be overridden.

If any country attacks that country the army will inform the president first after that they will tell the prime minister . In India the prime minister keeps active tan the president so many people think that India is a country where president has no value because India's prime minister has all the value but the reality is that India's president has more value than India's prime minister .


Salary

The salary of India's president is ₹ 5,00,000 ( $ 6,600 ) per month .
